Edgar Allan Poe, born on January 19, had lived good, but at times sorrowful, life with many complexities. At an early age in Edgar Poe’s life, David Poe had left Eliza Poe with Edgar’s two other siblings. Within the age of three, Eliza Poe had passed away. After Eliza and David Poe had disappeared, he was fostered by John Allan and Frances Valentine Allan in Richmond, VIrginia while his siblings went to other families. His older brother, William, died at the age of 24. Frequently surrounded by death, Edgar Allan Poe had lots of misery in his life. When his foster mother, Frances Allan, had been diagnosed with tuberculosis, Edgar Allan Poe had come back from the United States Army to learn that she had already passed away and been buried. Years later, John Allan died with no mention of Edgar in his will. Also, after his wife/cousin, Virginia, passed away, Edgar Allan Poe was in depression for a long period of time. Poe was found in Baltimore on October 3, at 44 East Lombard street, and was taken to the hospital. He lapsed, was out of consciousness, and never explained what had happened to him. There are many thoughts on Edgar Allan Poe’s death, such as, he could of been beaten, mugged, drugged, or even had an overdose of alcohol, along with many other ideas. The theory most people think of when people are asked about Poe’s death, is a high dose of alcohol, which can explain the way of his conditions. The mystery of Poe’s death leads to many myths and no one knows the truth of what happened. Poe’s last words were, “Lord help my poor soul.” which continues to leave a mystery behind his death.
